Description

An ADSL filter, also known as a microfilter or splitter, is a small electronic device that separates the ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) signal from the analog voice signal on a single telephone line.

ADSL works by using higher frequencies to transmit data, while a standard telephone uses lower frequencies. Without an ADSL filter, the high-frequency data signals from your modem can cause static or noise on your phone line, and the signals from your phone or other analog devices can interfere with your ADSL connection, leading to slower speeds or frequent disconnections.

Key Functions
Filters the Phone Line: An ADSL filter is a low-pass filter, which means it allows the low-frequency voice signals to pass through to your telephone, while blocking the high-frequency ADSL data signals.

Prevents Interference: By filtering out the high-frequency noise from your phone, fax machine, or other analog devices, the filter ensures that your ADSL connection remains stable and performs optimally.

Directs Signals: The filter directs the high-frequency ADSL signal to your modem or router and the low-frequency voice signal to your phone.

How to Use It
You must install an ADSL filter on every telephone socket that has an analog device connected to it, such as a landline phone, fax machine, or a digital TV box that uses the phone line. The only device that should not have a filter is the ADSL modem or router itself, as it needs to receive the unfiltered, high-frequency signal.

For best results, it is recommended to use a single “filtered faceplate” on your main phone socket, which filters the entire house’s phone wiring while providing a dedicated, unfiltered port for the ADSL modem. However, the more common and simpler method is to use individual filters at each socket where a phone or other analog device is plugged in.
